As president of Genesee Valley LL I would like to say thanks to all of you who joined the GVLL family; it was a great season. We have much to celebrate. We have come back from a decade of slow decline. No kids in 2012. Twenty-eight kids and 3 teams in 2013 to 73 kids and 7 teams in 2014! I believe we will be even bigger and stronger in 2015. Some said baseball was dead in the southwest quadrant of the city and there was no need to retain our baseball playing fields. You proved them wrong.
We still have a lot of work ahead of us. Improving our playing fields, securing more playing fields. Indoors practice facilities for early spring training. More sponsors. More coaches. Improving league parent interaction. The board will be tackling all these issues and more between now and next season.
For now, take a breather. Step back and enjoy the summer. Celebrate your child’s accomplishments. While you make your personal assessment of our season remember, every time we held a practice or played a game, something greater than just baseball is taking place. We were and are helping to strengthen families and build community. That’s a great thing to be a part of.
